Everybody wants to be successful in their lives.
But to be able to evaluate how successful you really are, you first have to come up with your own definition of success.
You want to measure your success according to your own definition of success, not somebody else´s.
Sadly too many people are still defining success based on only two things, money and power.
Don´t get me wrong, I don´t think there is anything wrong with money and we all need quite a lot of it. We all need money to be able to support ourselves, to live the life we want, but to me money is just energy to get us what we want – so we only need enough to do that.
But I think we are moving into a new era where everybody will be courageous enough to come up with their own definition on success, on what is most important to them, and more and more people will think about enjoying the moment, their well-being, the importance of and ability to help others and give back to society, not only about what one can get out of others and society.
In my mind too many people define success according to what´s in their bank accounts or what their title is.
You can even be successful in some areas of your life but not others.
If you say that your life is about these four dimensions:
- your relationships,
- your physical environment,
- your health and emotional balance,
- your wealth, if or how well you are able to support yourself.
And then if you rate your success on these dimensions, on the scale of 1 – 10 then how well are you doing?
Is there a mismatch; is there a dimension in your life that you need to give more attention?
Living a balanced life, where there is a harmony in things that matter the most to you should be your ultimate goal, to be successful according to your own definition of success.
Now here is your assignment for the week:
Write down what matters the most to you in each of these categories, then evaluate how satisfied you are with where you are at with those matters, in other words how successful you are.
If you are not too happy with your success-score then please make a plan to change it. And not only make a plan but turn it into action steps.
If you struggle with this a good friend or a coach might help.
I have blogged before on what success looks like, please check it out and other blogs here at my website.
