Should you be looking up at the mountain…
When working on your 360° Success, in work and life, it is important that you use your time consciously to maintain, or improve how well you are doing in all aspects of your life. Especially in those areas of your life that you have defined as important for you to do well in, to feel truly Successful.
Maybe you are not doing as well as you would have wanted in all areas of your life, whether in your private or professional life. I want you to just look at that as an opportunity to do better. Please do not be hard on yourself because of it, you are your lifelong project and as long as you are working on things, that´s good.
If you feel that you could do better in regards to your physical health, then I suggest you first think about how you measure your physical health.
In my opinion you should not measure it by looks, kilos or pounds. Rather if you are physically able to do all the things you want to do, without having to think too much about it, or based on how good you feel in your own body. This is about enjoying life and everything that it has to offer, but in a sensible way of course.
So if you feel you could do better regarding your physical health, but are not about to make any drastic changes, what can you do, to add more exercising and healthy choices into your daily routine?
… or should you be looking down the mountain?
Many of my clients work long days, maybe you do too. And even though my expertize is not in physical health, I always recommend to them that they try to find ways to add exercise and healthy choices into their daily routines and working hours.
Here are some options you might want to consider during the work day: Take stairs instead of using elevators, drink more water than coffee, take one-on-one meetings walking (outside if possible), in formal meetings to offer water and fruits instead of coffee and confectionery and last but not least to laugh a bit more, so good for your abs and also your mental health.
And there are options for you even before you go to work: You can set your alarm to go off 15 minutes earlier than usual and use the time to do some push-ups, plank or other simple exercises you can do at home. There are even apps for smartphones that take you through a good overall workout that takes only 7 minutes, you could get one of those.
Also regarding your commuting: If you live close to your work you should consider waking there, or if you go by car or public transport you should consider parking or leaving your bus or train one stop further away from your work than you have to. You could even use the time to listen to an audiobook or your favorite music on your phone or other players. Not bad showing up at work singing or dancing, sets a good tone for the day.
And as for the end of your day, for busy professionals good sleep is essential so I want you to be more conscious about your sleep. Make sure to get the sleep you need. When you are tired or sleep deprived you will be more prone to choose less healthy food. Your mood will also be affected in an unpleasant way, which will affect your relationships, at work and home. If you tend to lose track of time in the evenings you can set your alarm or set a reminder on your phone that goes off when you want to go to bed at nights.
Maybe these issues I have mentioned here, your sleep, your diet and your exercises are not the most important things to you. But please do your best to find ways that you enjoy, to be in your best physical state so you can happily look down the mountain instead of just glaring at it, even though this is not really about any mountain, but I guess you knew that…
