To-Do / Not-To-Do / Done
For many years now you have probably heard and read about that in order to manage our time and to work in the best and most efficient way you most definitely must have a good „To-Do“-list.
More recently it has become more popular to talk about the importance of having “Not-To-Do”-list or a list of the things you should not do yourself, you have probably heard about this type of list.
The reasons for this kind of list are among others:
- you should focus and concentrate on your own assignments and what you are responsible for and let others do their own
- you should focus and put your time in what you are good at
- you should get others to do for you what you are not good at or what others do better than you
- you should get others to do for you what they can do more effective or cost efficient so you can put your time in things with higher return for you
I have worked with a lot of people who are very good in using To-Do-List and keep adding to it.
Now they are learning to go through it, sort it and move some things to the Not-To-Do-List, many of them having too long To-Do-Lists.
In many cases the To-Do-List can be so long that it has become like a burden itself.
It can eat up your energy to be constantly looking at everything you still have to do.
I have been advising many of the people I work with and that I´m coaching to make their Done-List.
That list should hold some of the main things you have finished or achieved. So when the times come when you are losing all your energy thinking about everything you still have to do, even thinking that you are not good enough having this much yet to do then you can look at your Done-List and remind yourself of your greatest achievements and some of the biggest things you have finished.
By doing this you hopefully soon see that you are quite ok, and even very good and have achieved a lot of things.
With this list you boost up your energy-level so you can start working on your To-Do-List.
It is not less important to manage your energy than your time and assignments.
And it is also equally important to be aware of the things that eat up your energy as well as the things that give you energy.
