Recently, when I was giving a presentation to a fairly large audience about various aspects of success one person in the room raised his hand and said he didn´t like the word success. Even though he agreed with me on the importance of finding your own definition of success and your own way of having it he still didn´t like the word.
I was very happy that he came up with his own word for success and he promised me he was going to work on his own definition of success, or rather magic, since he was with me in wanting to live his life, both private and professional life, in a way that he would have no regrets at his 70 year old birthday party.
And even though he, you and me, we all have to come up with our own definition of success here are some ingredients I think you should look into when working on your magical success, both in your private and professional life.
New researches have been showing us, despite what we were taught to believe for a long time, that the brain can be healed and rewired, so to speak.
This means that your mindset and thoughts can be re-programmed with conscious work and will and I have sometimes talked to you about the fact that the most powerful thing you can change in your life is your thoughts.
So you don´t have to be stuck in old mindsets created by prior experiences, failures or traumas or even inherited mindsets from someone else.
You have to make sure that your thoughts are supporting you and affecting your behavior in a way that will help you make magic. Albert Einstein is claimed to have said “We can’t solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them” or as some have interpreted it “If you keep doing the same things as you have always done, at the best you get what you have always gotten”.
Your mindset can be your best friend or your biggest enemy, if you allow negative thoughts and limiting beliefs control your life.
So please choose your thoughts consciously and wisely since they affect your actions, or inactions!
You can be very successful according to all kinds of definitions and standards.
– You may have a lot of money, be travelling the world first class and having caviar drizzled with gold flakes for dinner every night and be considered successful by a lot of people.
– You may live a very simple and quiet life in a small hut up in the mountains, be sustainable regarding your food and clothes and be considered very successful by a lot of people.
But if either one of this doesn´t make your heart sing it probably has no meaning to you.
To be able to work on your magic or your own way of success you have to know what has true meaning to you, find your purpose as some would say.
When you have found that out for you, you have to use your mindset, and maybe even some courage, to just go for it.
So what can you do when your mojo is low and you don´t feel like making magic?
Then you may have to trick your brain a bit.
You may want to play music that elicits a specific emotional response in you. Think about some music you like and how different music puts you in different mood. When your mojo is low just put on some music that puts you in the right frame of mind, according to what you are facing each time. With this, as everything else, you have to choose your music for you since you respond differently to different songs than other people. In fact music is one of the most powerful neurobiological tools we have to change our mood, mindset, and behavior.
Managing yourself is probably one of your biggest challenge.
To be successful you have to manage your thoughts, daily habits, energy, time, whom you spend your time with or surround yourself with, decisions and actions.
It is very unlikely you will find yourself on a top of a mountain one day, you have to manage your preparation, and journey to the top.
What drives you, what makes your heart sing, why do you want to do what you want to do?
You may have to remind you of those things when you start doubting yourself or feel that it is better to pack than to move on.
One way to fuel your motivation and boost your energy is to remind yourself of everything you have accomplished and how you are going to feel when you have reached the hill you are climbing instead of draining your tank by thinking too much about everything you still have to do.
Meditating doesn´t have to be complicated or require any awkward positions or too much of your time. But there is no doubt in my mind that meditating can be very beneficial and help you in making your magic or success. Meditating gives your brain a good and nourishing break which in turns rewards you with better focus, more creativity, better memory, less anxiety and stress, to name some of the benefits.
One simple way to meditate is to take 2 minutes and focus on nothing else than your breathing, can you do that without thinking about something else? Challenge of the day!
It is the same with the mantras as the meditations, they don´t have to be complicated or follow a certain script – you can make your own mantras and use them whenever you feel overwhelmed, stressed etc.
Here are examples of some of the mantras I have used over the years:
- Rather regret things I did than those that I didn´t do – no regret at 70
- Courage to change the things I can.
- Why not utilize all the opportunities the world offers?
- Others don´t have to be perfect, why should I have to be?
- If you don´t believe in yourself, why should others do so?
- You can do it, just like everybody else!
It all starts and ends with you, both in your private and professional life. Never forget who you are and where you are coming from. Never forget how capable and powerful you are. You can be, do and have everything that you set your mind to, so go for it!
