I took what I needed… from a song
In the summer of 1995 I was very fond of a song with Del Amitri, a very sad and dramatic love song called Driving with the brakes on.
The funny thing is that this sad song, or rather just the part of the chorus where it said
“… when you are driving with the brakes on… when you are swimming with your boots on…”
was like a kick in the butt for me.
Not because of some romantic issues – just that this metaphor was like a big wakeup-call for me so I took from this song exactly what I needed!
Get rid of your boots and release your brakes
This metaphor hit me in a way that I realized that I was holding myself down in a way, I was swimming with my boots on, being the biggest brake in my life – I was probably the hand-brake as well…
Not a broken heart or anything overly dramatic going on in my life at this time though. Just somehow this song reminded me of letting go, of starting to relax, have more fun, to live and let others live for themselves, to keep growing and developing myself.
To fly you have to be free, to reach all your potentials you have to allow yourself to be everything you are capable of, even though it may be scary at times and my rock some boats at times.
